What is #livingoffthewall?

In 2013, Vans sought to explain the spirit of Off the Wall, rewarding loyalists and informing newcomers alike through both “Anthem” and “Emerged” campaign phases that brought the concept to life. Our objective is to make Off the Wall synonymous with creative expression. In 2014, we turn the tables, inviting people from all over the world to tell us what Off the Wall means to them, a curated documentary of people living Off the Wall the world over.

What does Vans want me to make this 3-6 minute piece about?

We are looking for documentarians with a rich emotional bond to and implicit understanding of the Vans brand, inspired to seek out the meaning of Off the Wall through individuals they encounter worldwide. These story-tellers will generate content by capturing words, images and moving pictures everywhere they go. Any subject organically connected to a life based on creative expression through art, music, action sports and/or street culture is worthy of consideration.

What are my limitations?

There really aren't any. It would be cool if your story was based on a subject who is already a Vans fan, but overt product placement isn't necessary. What is necessary is powerful story-telling around the above detailed theme of creative expression through a culture connecting to our brand. One more hint: Choose content over style. A beautiful story told with a GoPro will win out over a hackneyed story filmed with a RED.
